Continuous water care and water quality monitoring are important if you want to use your pool throughout the year. We have the expertise to give you advice on this.

Doctor Clearwater together with a team of experts will tell you how to approach this issue.

PROBAZEN® is a high-quality pool chemical product from a Czech manufacturer. Each pool owner has the opportunity to select from among proven products, either based on active chlorine or a chlorine-free product with active oxygen. Our combined formulas support comfortable water maintenance in your pool. Water pH regulation products, algae removers and haze removers are designed to address specific water problems.”

What can happen if the pH is too high?

A pH higher than 7.6 supports the formation of mineral haze, potential filtration system blocking, sanitation efficiency decrease and eye and skin irritation.

What can happen if the pH is too low?

A pH lower than 6.8 causes metal and concrete corrosion, colour fading and eye and skin irritation.

How can I measure the chlorine level in my pool?

The most popular method to measure the free chlorine concentration in water is by using a tablet-based pool minitester.
Also available, and highly accurate, is determining it by using a drop tester. This tester enables you to measure both free chlorine and total free + bonded) chlorine.

Special systems – photometers and measuring the water redox potentials – can also be used to measure chlorine in water.

What should I do after filling the pool for the first time?

First, measure the water pH in the pool by using a pool tester. The optimum range is from pH 6.8 to pH 7.6. If the observed value is higher, use pH MINUS to adjust it, if it is lower, use pH PLUS.

Measure the water hardness level, particularly if the pool was filled from a local water source. If the hardness is high, reduce it with HARDNESS STABILIZER. This will help prevent the formation of stubborn mineral deposits on the pool walls and bottom.

Now use fast-dissolving CHLOR START granules for initial water chlorination. The dosage is 40-80 g per 10 m3 of water in the pool. The chlorine concentration should be thereby adjusted to the initial level of 0.3 to 0.5 mg/l. Subsequently, use COMBI tablets or MULTI tablets for water sanitation and treatment on an ongoing basis.

What should be done after the winter months? Must all water be drained, and new water added?

Before making up water in the pool, clean the pool walls with a brush or sponge by using our GEL CLEANER.

Connect the filtration system according to the manufacturer’s instructions for use and check and tighten all screws and nuts to avoid water leaks. Add water until it is at the level of the skimmer centre (or as you require) and activate filtration for 24 hours.

Then perform pre-season water treatment:

  • If water hardness is too high, use HARDNESS STABILIZER.
  • Adjust pH with pH MINUS or pH PLUS as appropriate.
  • Use CHLOR START for initial chlorination. Add 40-80 g per 10 m3 of water in the pool. The chlorine concentration should be thereby adjusted to the initial level of 0.3 to 0.5 mg/l.
  • Subsequently, use COMBI tablets or MULTI tablets for water sanitation and treatment on an ongoing basis.

How can I determine the pH of the water in my pool?

Many methods exist for determining pool water pH. Most widespread are pool minitesters using tables. One available, affordable and very reliable device are drop testers.

Electronic pH meters exist but are rather expensive. The use of universal pH test strips is not recommended because the readings are very crude. You can estimate units of pH but not pH unit fractions
while what you need to know is the value to tenths of a pH unit.

You can have the pH of your pool water measured exactly by an accredited laboratory: refer, for instance to http://vhlab.cz.

How can I find out whether water in my tool is “hard”?

Water hardness is directly proportional to the concentration of the dissolved minerals, calcium and magnesium ions in particular. Tap water hardness can be found out from the municipal water supplier.

If water from a well or another natural source is used, it is advisable to make a crude water hardness measurement with a drop tester. If a high water hardness degree is detected or suspected, use our HARDNESS STABILIZER.

If you wish to know the hardness of your water precisely, contact a specialized water analysis laboratory, such as https://www.vhlab.cz

What to do when algae are everywhere in the pool?

Algae in a pool are very much unwanted because they can cause the water to turn green, brown or yellowish in colour, lead to a slippery and slimy pool bottom and walls and bad smells.

Basic protection against the growth of algae is provided by the algicidal ingredients of our COMBI tablets or MULTI tablets 5-in-1. This should be completed with our Algae Remover at 150-200 ml per 10 m3 of water added weekly if algae are present everywhere.

What to do if the water is turbid?

If the water in the pool is turbid, try to identify the cause. For instance, a high pH may cause inorganic matter to precipitate into water-borne particles. Water pH adjustment is the right remedy.
Alternatively, haze may arise from the scattering of fine mechanical impurities or organic compounds. If this is the case, use our
Liquid Flocculant: the impurities will cluster into flakes, which can be trapped by filtration or, if deposited on the pool bottom, removed with a pool vacuum cleaner.

The water pH must be lowered to 6.5-6.8 before using this product. The recommended dosage is 10–50 ml per 10 m3 of water.

Turbid and bad smelling water containing algae: what is the solution?

If the water in the pool is very dirty, e.g. due to high temperatures, heavy use of the pool, storms, etc., it can be cleaned rapidly by using Chlor Shock.

As a result of adding this product, the chlorine concentration increases sharply and kills algae and bacteria in the pool. Now add Liquid Flocculant: water can be then clarified by filtration. The pool must not be used for swimming while Chlor Shock is acting.

The recommended dosage is 90 g of Chlor Shock per 10 m3 of water in the pool. This dose can be lowered or increased depending on the degree of pollution.

Mineral substances form a deposit in my pool. Is it calcium scale? How can I prevent it?

Yes, scale can deposit in a pool, especially if the water used to fill the pool is very hard.
This is why much attention should be paid to water quality when filling the pool. In fact, the formation of scale can be prevented.

Our HARDNESS STABILIZER is an ideal product for this purpose. A highly soluble complex is formed between the HARDNESS STABILIZER ingredients and the calcium/magnesium ions in the water, whereby the formation of mineral deposits on the pool bottom and walls is prevented.

Maintaining the water pH within the optimum range (pH 6.8 to 7.6) throughout the season is a basic prerequisite for scale formation prevention.

Is there a product for removing existing mineral deposits (scale) from the pool without draining water from it?

No such product exists to our knowledge.

If scale has deposited, you must drain the water from the pool and remove the scale mechanically with a brush and one of the range of scale removers
(citric acid or hydrochloric acid based, etc., as commonly used in the kitchen).”
